North City Urgent Care Center May Close

HAMILTON HEIGHTS — The owner of North City Urgent Care fears the health care facility may have to close its doors after five years in the Hamilton Heights neighborhood.

According to owner Dr. Sonny Saggar, the north side clinic sees only a handful of patients a day, which he says isn’t enough to make a profit, despite being one of the few health care clinics in north city. South St. Louis, in comparison, has more than a half dozen urgent care centers.

Being one of the few health care centers on the north side, some wonder why North City Urgent Care is not seeing higher traffic. According to Sagger, he believes “lack of awareness” about the health clinic has played a large role in the low usage. Another reason might be the location. The center, located at 6113 Ridge Ave, is not on a main street and has limited visibility.

Urgent care clinics are popular in many communities because they help patients avoid waiting in long emergency room lines. Urgent care clinics are able to give faster medical attention for minor emergencies and often cost less.

Top urgent care giant Total Access Urgent Care reportedly operates in 18 locations in the St. Louis region, but none in north St. Louis.
